Forensic Audit of NDDC: Rivers Youths Reacts!

The rumour making the news about the Forensic Audit of the NDDC by the Presidency from 2001 till date to ascertain the impact of the commission to the Niger Delta have raised a lot of controversy ranging from the Establishment of an interim Governing board by the Minister of Niger Delta; Godswill Akpabio and lots more.

In a view to air out our opinion as Concerned Youths of the lower Delta; Mr. Alali, Raphael (A political analyst), Favour Chizoba (A scholar of Environmental Economics) alongside Success David (an eloquent speaker and human right activist) all Rivers indigenes were invited for a round table discussion on 99.5Fm, a Radio station in the metropolis of Port Harcourt, the capital City of Rivers state to make their own contributions on how to further better the commision and make life more better and meaningful for the neglected people of the Area.

It is evident that the Niger Delta Development commission (NDDC) was established out of the agitations of the frontiers like Ken Sarowiwa of Ogoni and other personalities with in the geographical Niger Delta that is composite of Bayelsa, Delta and Rivers state on the grounds that the resources upon which the economy of the country is sustained comes from the region whereas the region is abandoned to suffer from environmental degradation as a result of oil spillage that has adversely affected the soil and productivity of farm produce,  polluted the air and aquatic life which is a main source of livelihood of the indigenous people of the lower Delta.

All of these agitations gave rise to the establishment of the Niger Delta Development Commission Act of 5th June, 2000 by the Chief Olusegun Obasanjo led Administration to see out to the above mention challenges through, reconstruction, rejuvenation and rehabilitation of the Area. This Act was alternatively called the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) but it's so sadden that from a wide rang of criticism, the commission have failed to meet up the aspirations behind it's establishment.

All these factors were responsible for the need to embark on a Forensic Audit by the Office of the presidency from 2001 till date, to ascertain the root cause of the problems, those responsible for the setbacks and measures to further improve on the commission.

Surprisingly, Nigerians are still speculative about the fate of the Forensic Audit on the grounds that it may be politicized at the end of the day but from the consensus at the Parliament; I.e the segment of the radio program, Nigerians are advised to keep hopes alive that it may go down well with the Audit with more remedial measures to bring back the lust dream of the commission into lame light.
